In addition to being responsible for managing and maintaining recreational routes, Routebureau is also specialised in developing networks of such routes. If you’re planning to develop a network of walking routes of your own, please contact us at Routebureau. We will help to ensure that your network of walks can become part of the bigger picture of existing routes and networks.

In June 2012, numerous
government bodies in The Netherlands, Belgium and France signed a
declaration of intent to create a cycle route along the banks of the
River Meuse, from its source to its estuary. In order to determine
whether it the development of such a route is feasible, the municipality
of Venlo has contracted the agencies Idea Consult, Inovamedia and 3Hoog
Design to investigate the idea further. Their findings are expected to
be available in July 2013.

Routebureau is not only responsible for managing its own cycle network, but also for ensuring that its routes join up with those in neighbouring provinces and countries. Routebureau will be meeting with its counterparts in the Dutch province of North Brabant in the near future to discuss ways of improving the connections between routes. We have already held talks with Kreis Viersen and Kreis Heinsberg, and reached agreement on improvements to the links. The necessary construction work is scheduled to be carried out in Autumn 2013.

The region of Northern
and Central Limburg already features several different networks of
walking routes. The networks in the municipalities of Bergen, Peel &
Maas, Roerdalen, Beesel and Leudal are already up and running, and new
networks of intersections will soon be added in Gennep, Nederweert and
Maasgouw. In order to ensure that walkers can find their way easily, and
also from a cost-saving perspective, it is important to ensure that the
signposts out in the field and all map materials have the same clear
and uniform design. To this end, Routebureau has developed a template
which is proving very popular with the municipalities. The map of
Roerdalen is already on sale in tourist information offices (VVV) and
the maps of Leudal, Gennep, Nederweert and Maasgouw will be available
soon.

Various cycling and walking routes are available for download from the liefdevoorlimburg.nl website. On behalf of the tourism organisations in Northern Limburg, Routebureau is tasked with checking the accuracy of these cycling and walking routes, with the help of countless volunteers. The routes will be checked in Spring 2013 to ensure that all cyclists and walkers can follow their chosen routes without any problems.

On Monday 25 June 2012, Routebureau is organising a meeting to discuss uniformity. A large number of routes run through Northern and Central Limburg, but many different styles of signposts are used to indicate them. Furthermore, several different styles of design are used for promotional materials, which can make it difficult for consumers to distinguish between the various routes. During the meeting, Routebureau is keen to discuss the importance of uniformity with attendees.
|
tThe ‘Bordje Weg’ app is now available for free download for iPhone and Android. The app is ideal for notifying us of any missing or damaged signposts along the route while you are out walking or cycling.

The Netherlands boasts some 4,500 kilometres of signposted national cycle routes. In collaboration with the Landelijk Fietsplatform (Dutch National Cycling Platform), we are currently aligning our network of cycle paths and intersections with the national cycle routes. From May 2011 onwards, these will follow the same routes, which will make it more efficient and cost-effective to manage and maintain the network.

Routebureau Noord- en Midden-Limburg has hired the company Kragten to digitalise the entire overview of the cycle path network. This involves all of the signposts which comprise the network being digitally captured and uploaded into a database.
As a result, the Routebureau will have continual access to real-time data on the network of cycle paths, which will in turn make it much easier to manage and maintain the routes.
The digitalisation process is almost completed.
